Pi Omicron Omega Chapter at the 71st Mid-Atlantic Regional Conference in Charlotte, NC

Another Marvelous Mid-Atlantic Regional Conference in the books! The members of Pi Omicron Omega chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Incorporated, thoroughly enjoyed our time in the Queen City of Charlotte, NC this weekend for the 71st Mid-Atlantic Regional Conference. Congratulations are in order to our newly crowned Silver (25 years of service: Jennifer Thompson-Graves ) and Golden (50 years of service: Connell Burnette and Eleanor Scott )! #PiOmicronOmega #AKA1908

Pi Omicron Omega Chapter Members at Leadership Seminar 2023
 

A time was had at Leadership Seminar 2023 in Chicago, IL! From July 12-16 our chapter members along with thousands of sorority sisters from around the world, enjoyed an informative and engaging 4 days of workshops and programs. Tours of the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Incorporated Corporate Office were also a highlight of the trip. Uplift Our Local Community: Alamance-Burlington School System Closet Supply Drive
 

Our Uplift Our Local Community Committee, in collaboration with Omicron Epsilon @ Elon University, organized a basic and personal needs supply drive during our May joint chapter meeting. The supplies were donated to the Alamance Burlington School System's supply closet, where they would be available to students and families. About 600 items were collected, including toothpaste, toothbrushes, soap/body wash, hair products, and laundry detergent.

 

We are thankful for the opportunity to serve the students of ABSS and our local community.

Advocate for Social Justice: Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Wreath Laying Ceremony

On April 1st, some members of our Advocate for Social Justice/Connections Committee attended the Wreath Laying Ceremony at the statue of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. The ceremony, sponsored by the Martin Luther King, Jr. Coalition of Alamance County, was at Mayco Bigelow Community Center. Our chapter member, Catherine Smith (left), is President of the Coalition; seen here with chapter members Lizzie Alston (middle) and Valarie Enoch (right).

Dr. King's Assassination. Background: On April 4, 1968, Martin Luther King, Jr. was assassinated by a sniper's bullet while standing on the second-floor balcony of his room at the Lorraine Motel in Memphis, Tennessee.

2023 Mid-Atlantic Regional Conference

A MARvelous time was had this weekend in Raleigh, NC at the 2023 Mid-Atlantic Regional Conference! An Evening with Sunny Hostin

 

Thursday evening members of Pi Omicron Omega attended the Distinguished Leadership Lecture Series presented by Elon University School of Law.  This lecture involved Sunny Hostin from ABC’s The View.  Sunny’s conversation was engaging and inspiring. A great time to fellowship with sisters and learn about Sunny’s legal and television journey.

MLK Day of Service 2023

Join Pi Omicron Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated in a day of service on Saturday January 14, 2023 for a Gallon4Gallon Food & Supply Drive with Allied Churches. We will be at 206 N. Fisher St. in Burlington,NC from 10AM-12Noon collecting gallon size food items and cleaning supplies. 

Requested items include gallon size containers of : green beans, sweet peas,/English peas, corn, Fabuloso cleaner, LA Awesome cleaner. Other brands of cleaning supplies and smaller sizes will be accepted.

MLK Day of Service 2022: Event Change**

The MLK Day of Service is Monday, January 17, 2022. This year, Pi Omicron Omega is a co-sponsor for a community Drive-Thru Food Drive. Please assist us in helping the Alamance County community by donating food items.

Due to impending inclement weather, the date of this event has changed. There are now two ways to donate this weekend at various locations. Additional details are provided below.

Pi Omicron Omega Adopts a Local Family for Christmas

In the spirit of Christmas and giving,  the ladies of Pi Omicron Omega partnered with the Delta Lambda Lambda chapter of Omega Psi Phi to adopt a local family for Christmas.  Clothes, household items, and toys were purchased, wrapped, and delivered to the family.  We are truly blessed to be able to be a blessing to this family. We wish everyone a wonderful and safe holiday!

Soles4Souls Shoe Drive 2021
 

On Sunday, November 14th, the Pi Omicron Omega chapter hosted a Shoe Drive-Thru to collect shoes to donate to the Soles4Souls organization. The Mid-Atlantic Region put out a challenge to collect shoes and the Pi Omicron Omega chapter happily accepted. Our goal was to collect 125 pairs of shoes. Due to the generosity of POO members and members of our beloved Burlington community we collected 845 pairs of shoes!!!! 

 

THANK YOU to all who donated shoes for this project. We also want to acknowledge Biscuitville for providing 'free biscuit' cards for all shoe drive participants.
